6 Speed Group N transmission mount install.

6 Speed Group N transmission mount install!

This is a pretty straight forward install and the you will only need a ratchet with a 14mm and 17mm socket. I went ahead and used my two Milwaukee’s to help speed up the process. My 3/8ths impact and ratchet were powerful enough to get anything out of the way. If you have lifted your vehicle you might be able to do it without lifting the vehicle, if not make sure to use jack stands and check it prior to rolling under the car. Be safe and if you don’t feel confident let the professionals do it.

After lifting the vehicle off the ground and triple checking your jack stands. Place the jack with a piece of wood or other soft material on the trans pan to support it.. This will allow you to remove the crossmember and keep the trans from shifting or falling.

With it properly supported you only have 10 bolts to find and remove. Two are located at the rear(14mm) of the crossmember mount under the trans.

The next two are the nuts(14mm) that attach the mount and the crossmember. These are dead center and easy see.

Next you will remove the outer crossmember bolts that connect it to the unibody of the car. These are largest bolts (17mm). It recommends in the factory service manual to not reinstall them with a impact wrench. As breaking these bolts off in the car will leave you with a huge headache. Being two of the four mounting points for crossmember and they are all very necessary.

Now the transmission crossmember will be loose and ready to drop down. Slide it up and over your downpipe and this fully exposes the transmission mount. Four(14mm) bolts hold it to the transmission, make sure to take them out with care, these are another set of holes you don’t want to damage.

With the mount out it is repeating the above directions in reverse. I took the time to sauce up each bolt with a bit of antiseize given their importance. If this is your first time it is a great time to replace the factory crossmember rubber. I removed mine four years ago and was amazed by how soft and worn it was. I installed the Turn in Concepts crossmember bushings that come in awesome cherry blossom red!
