04-06 STi lower control arms! Oem answers for modified car issues!
Hey!.... Welcome to #modmonday where I discuss a part installed on one of my Subarus, how it works, downfalls and how to install. This week we find ourselves deep in the front suspension of the Forester with 04-06 STi caster adding lower control arms. Here's why you might want them on your car..
Why the 04-06 STi lower control arms? They are designed with additional caster which helps with many things. Most notably for lifted Subarus more caster! When you lift your Subaru no matter if the lift plates have geometry corrections built into them they will most likely loss a bit. These help get that back and a little extra to help larger tires clear the inner fender well. This my original reason for purchasing these.
I have always been in the boat of "repairing" my Forester by upgrading parts with the STi version when I can. Knowing the additional caster would easily shift the tire location forward in the fender well... Thus ending the rubbing into the fender well on sharp turns. I feared they might move the tire too far forward but much to my amazement they placed them perfectly.
Post install I noticed just how well the car turns in, the additional caster helps offset the Forester's lower camber. Which for this car wasn't a goal of mine but a great bonus to the install. The aluminum arms won't rust, weigh less and are less prone to bending versus the factory steel arms.
Everything bolts right in when installing these on your Forester which makes everything very simple and straightforward. If you are lifted or factory ride height the Forester transverse bushings will work perfectly with these arms.
Overall these are an excellent upgrade for either lifted or lowered Foresters. I truly wish I wouldn't waited so long to install these, they just add so much without any downsides. I like to think the extra 5mm per side helps alleviate a tiny bit of stress and boot angle from the cv axles… but who knows!
