Iag aluminum half moon seals! Shiny aluminum moonlight for your boxer motor!

Hey!... Welcome to another #modmonday. This week's part is @Iagperfromance's aluminum half moon seals. These replace the factory Subaru plastic half moon seals and now you have durable/reusable units! These were installed on the Forester for three and half years ago to be swapped over last week to the new engine.

Here is the hole and you need something to fill it… Without half moon seals your engine oil won;t think twice before exiting.

Here they are. Mine have some great battle scars from being forcible removed from the prior cylinder head.

When you are doing valve covers you have three choices when dealing with these. 1. Leave the old ones and hope they don't leak. 2. Replace them with the factory Subaru units ($22) but know they made need to be replaced again. 3. Buy these fantastic aluminum units that can be reused countless times!

The factory units aren’t bad. But buying them twice means you have paid for a set of aluminum seals.

Being a person who likes to buy things once and reuse them over the life of the vehicle, this was a no brainer. With a company like Iag putting them out you know they are a quality product.

The design is simple, yet effective. It looks just as the factory units do but in a lovely silver shade. They install just as the old units do with a bead of fujibond, hondabond or permatex ultra grey.

Just a seal enjoying it’s time and getting ready to be installed.

The only downside I have had with these was removing it from one head to another. I didn't put to much thought it to it but when these get siliconed in place they are there to stay. It took a small torch, pair of knipex pliers and a wood punch to free these. Which is great to think about now that they are reinstalled. Nothing short of a natural disaster will shake these things free of your engine.

Another shot of the battle scars from removal and set in place for the valve cover gasket to be installed on top.

Another thing worth noting is when you purchase the Oem engine gasket kit, half moon seals aren’t included.. Which is weird.. they are a pretty necessary part. That’s where these fill that empty hole in you cylinder head and heart.
