Center caps for Method Vt spec Mr502s! Unlike a Sasquatch these do exist!

Hey!... Welcome to #modmonday! Today we look at my Forester's Method wheels, but more importantly the center caps. Method doesn't offer center caps for the VT spec wheels but after a bit of testing and searching I have found what works! These are generic Subaru center caps found on Amazon or eBay, now on to the details.

Not much to see here… literally and figuratively.

Why place a center cap on these wheels....? If Method didn't want them on there why do you think you need them? Well, the Vt spec name indicates "Vermont specification" which is for the Us based Subaru Rally team HQs and with many motorsports events center caps are not allowed. With this the Method Vt spec wheel stays true to that.

In all it’s glory This is what comes in the generic set.

You could easily sand the clips down here to help to sit more flush with the wheel.

I on the other hand want to use these on the street and through many weather conditions. With that in mind I do not want excess rust and dirt build up around the axle nut causing trouble down the road when removal is necessary. Also looking at a nice tire/wheel setup with a rusty axle nut is not that appealing, least for me.

This is the cap pushed down. The clips are a bit taller than the wheel and thus they don’t sit flush.

With that in mind I decided to test out a few caps and measure to find out what would work. After a few cap test fits I found that a 58mm inner clip would be the necessary size. Working in an autoshop has the perks of removing many different caps to test fit them and an 2012 Outback was the correct fit for those looking for the original vehicle.

If you look close enough on a few of my photos you may find times where the center cap decal fell off.

I have since installing these had to order another set as the glue on two of the decals gave up and they flew off. Other than that they have been great. The clips are a bit too deep for the very shallow wheel depth to hub, but they have stayed put through snow, sand, dirt and heat! Plowing through some hood high water and blasting up and down the highway at 80 mphs these have stayed put, cept for the glue.

I now think I should have purchased directly from Subaru, with the caps I have had to replace. If I buy a third set I will now have spent more than buying from Subaru in the first place.
